The ICA was the first regional art conservation/preservation center in the United States and is the
only not-for-profit art conservation treatment and education facility in the region. Its facilities
occupy a building originally built in 1926 as a showroom and warehouse for Vitrolite, an
innovative structural glass company; the historic building has been retrofitted with
laboratories/studios, offices, workshops, and a large art storage facility. In its new facility, the ICA
now has sufficient space to accommodate especially large paintings, murals, and outdoor
sculptures, and to conserve textiles and objects in well-equipped and appropriately sized labs, as
well as nearly 4,000 sq. ft. of fine art storage.
