of squirrels and raccoons, the roof was full of holes, ceilings had collapsed and the garage
had caved in. Virtually none of the plumbing worked, the wiring was dangerous and steam heat
rained across the basement. As humorously regaled by Giffels in his recently published book
All The Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-Down Home, renovating the house has been
both an arduous work-in-progress and a poignant labor of love.

Murphy & Burge, a firm that has been recognized nationally for its highest quality work in
preservation and restoration architecture.

Our speaker will be Dr. Donna DeBlasio, director of the Center for Historic Preservation at
Youngstown State University. Dr. DeBlasio’s involvement in working class studies began with
the early development of Youngstown’s Labor and Steel Museum in the renowned Michael
Graves building.

The new year's the time for taking stock of where we've been, where we are, and where we're
going, a valuable exercise for the preservation-minded as they move forward in 2008. Last year
PTP tallied over forty societies and organizations focused on history and preservation. So, let's
take stock of Summit County now.
