Our August membership meeting was held at Longwood Park adjacent to Longwood Manor.
Kathy Thomas of the Longwood Manor Historical Society told us about Col. William Frew Long, his
home Longwood Manor, and their ongoing attempts to save and preserve the mansion.

Everyone was encouraged to attend Progress Through Preservation's annual picnic Monday, July
27th at 6 pm, at Preservation House at White Pond Drive and West Market Street.

Please join us at our June meeting which will take place at the University Presbyterian Church at
Spicer and Crouse Streets, Akron, near the University of Akron campus off of East Exchange
Street, a block from the Don Drumm Studio & Gallery. Park in the church parking lot. Those
wishing to join us for an optional dinner may meet at 5:30 pm at Bricco's, 1 East Exchange Street,
in downtown Akron.

April 27, 2009
Please join Progress Through Preservation at its April Membership Meeting, which will take place
at 7 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Steinway Hall at 715 E. Buchtel Avenue in Akron. This Jacobean
Revival-style home currently serves as the T.S. Good Church Organ Company’s Akron office,
specializing in pipe organs and digital electronic organs.

March 28, 2009
PTP’s March member meeting will take place beginning at 10:00 AM at the M.A. Manor on North
Portage Path, which has been chosen by the Junior League of Akron for its annual Designer
ShowHouse! Although the rooms of the house won’t be 100 percent complete until the official
ribbon-cutting on May 9, PTP members will get a sneak peek at the mansion’s 18 rooms, which
will all be refurbished by local designers as part of the Designer ShowHouse event.

February 23, 2009
Please join us February 23 for the Progress Through Preservation monthly meeting, which will
feature the Andrew Jackson House, on 277 E. Mill Street (corner of E. Mill and Union Streets) in
Akron, Ohio. This 16,000 square-foot Second Empire-style home, on the National Register of
Historic Places, was completed in 1870 and is currently being renovated by The Chesler Group,
Inc., a Cleveland, Ohio firm.

January 26, 2009
The annual meeting will be held January 26, 2009 at the Akron Woman’s City Club. Cocktails
begin at 6:00 PM with a cash beer and wine bar, dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. A brief business
meeting will follow dinner at 7:45 PM, followed by our guest speaker, David Giffels, who will talk
about his home restoration and book.
